Garden Art

Our garden is beginning to take shape.  In the last month we started our seedlings, did our Spring Clean Up, chose our bedding plants, made clay pot wind chimes and have now hung the fairy houses.  (I couldn’t find enough large bird houses for everyone… so the children are quite excited to have fairies instead.)  Please enjoy these progress photographs.  Next week we plant our rainbows!

The Girls Circle Program and RBC

CFY and funding partners RBC offered two sessions of Girl’s Circle Club this school year.  (Pictured above are some of the activities the girls took part in: Affirmation Art, Gratitude Bouquets, Journals and The Girls Book at How to Be The Best At Everything!)

At Girls Circle girls ages 10-16 are invited to share feelings, create friendships and explore topics that they might otherwise not talk about openly to teachers or parents.  It is a circle of trust and helps build self-esteem, coping and problem solving skills in young girls.  The sessions are two hours weekly for 6-10 weeks.

CFY Would like to thank RBC for making these sessions possible.  It is great to know that programs like these can continue because of your great support.  All of the girls had a great time!

Cheers,

Jenn Sedor

On April 6th and April 12th Katherine Leier from St. John’s Ambulance Regina came to the Carlyle Public Library to instruct 12 parents and youth about emergency first aid.  The Course covered everything from emergency scene management to CPR and AED rescue.  The highlight of the course was a chance to practice and learn emergency first aid specific for infants and children, something not as intensely covered in other first-aid courses offered in the area.

So far CFY has received many positive comments about the two courses held and will consider another first aid session for the community in the coming fall or winter months of 2014.  If you are interested in attending a course like this please let us know!!  Contact 306-453-2666 or cornerstoneprograms(at)sasktel.net

R-tworx: Art to Celebrate Diversity

In conjunction with our Girls Circle / Boys Council courses running at the school we have developed an art program to mirror the subjects our students will be covering in class.  These are all fun and fabulous projects which will include:

  • Crayon Canvas Art
  • Graffiti
  • Culture Tiles
  • Superhero creation
  • Larger cultural creation

These projects will help the children understand: Uniqueness, diversity, heritage, self-image and help them express their cultural self.

These sessions will be offered starting Thursday November 3rd – December 8th  for ages 6-13 @ the Carlyle Public Library 3:30-5PM.  The classes are free and drop in.

September at the Playroom

September has whizzed by without even one post!  Can you believe it!  But that doesn’t mean nothing has been transpiring at CFY Headquarters –First and foremost, the CFY Summer Club Mural at the Small Lot of H.O.P.E was completed and has been hung behind the Carlyle Elementary School, If you haven’t seen it in person – you should!  The kids and Coordinators did a fantastic job and the garden has never looked better. The Playroom has also kicked back into our regular Tues/Wed programming and coffee hour.  Here you can see one of our Playroom kids using our toy bucket to it’s full potential!  From the other side of the room all we could see was a little spiff or red hair in our bucket!

Plus our office has taken on a whole new look (and location!) we are now in a beautiful brand new office that was built by the Town of Carlyle and furnished by a generous grant from the Spectra Credit Union.  (Along with our new Playroom floor and baby change station – See our shout out to them in our wall art below)

(Check out our wall art that will be used to display some of the art that we collect around here)  It has been a great September and it will be a great October too!  Stay tuned for some great afterschool programming – harvest crafts – and even some trick or treating!!!

Our new office!
